2023 Izway Bruce Shiraz

The Bruce is a blend of vineyards from every grower that we source grapes from and is a testament to their dedication and understanding of these sites.

In 2003 a single barrel called Bruce, held our entire first vintage. Named after Kathryn’s late father, Bruce is the most iconic and personally significant wine that we produce.

The 2023 Bruce returns to a blend of the Barossa and Eden Valleys. The pedigree of the vineyards that we use for Bruce is undisputed, and the distinctive blend of both Barossa and Eden Valleys creates a timeless wine that can be consumed in the near and long term with equal enjoyment. Last year I noted that the 2022 Bruce was possibly the most approachable that we had released, and the 2023 that follows has a very similar profile. The wine is soft, velvety and balanced and its texture belies its aging potential. The aromatics are alive and fresh, with the energy in the wine seemingly unmoved, even after a few days open. Black cherry, strawberry, currants and a touch of apricot entwine with coffee, five spice and star anise, making this thought provoking and an absolute pleasure to drink. I have a sense of nostalgia sipping and sniffing this release and also a sense of contentment that this wine has evolved into how it’s looked for the last few vintages.
